How to Make Delicious Air Fryer Meat Pies: A Step-by-Step Guide

Hi, it’s Samantha here from RecipeThis.com, and I’m the voice behind the popular kitchen gadgets podcast, Magic with Gadgets. Today, I’ll show you just how easy it is to make a mouth-watering meat pie in the air fryer.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Leftover meat (prepped)
  • Main meat pie filling
  • Ramekins (for air fryer use)
  • Puff pastry (rolled out)
  • Rolling pin
  • Additional seasonings and sauces (tomato paste, BBQ sauce, ketchup, oregano)

Preparing the Meat Pie Filling

Before we get started, let me walk you through how we prepared our meat pie filling. Start by loading your leftover meat into a bowl. If you're like me and always find gadget cooking quantities a bit small, you might need to do a few batches.

I have some extra meat on hand, which might become beef stock later. Now, let's mix in some tomato paste, salt, pepper, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. This classic combination creates a rich and flavorful base.

For a quick sauce, I use BBQ sauce as a cheat method. Mixing different BBQ sauces adds a unique flavor. Don’t forget to add some ketchup for extra tanginess. Adjust the consistency until it’s perfect, then give it a good mix. Add some oregano for an extra burst of flavor.

Preparing the Puff Pastry

Now, let’s move on to the puff pastry. I have one block of puff pastry here. Flour your work surface and the rolling pin to prevent sticking. Roll out the pastry to a decent thickness, suitable for topping your pies.

You can use cutters for uniformity or trim any excess pastry. With the pastry ready, you can now portion it into four pieces, perfect for meal prep. If you have leftovers, you can freeze the pies with raw pastry on top and air fry them later.

Assembling the Meat Pies

Fill your ramekins with the meat pie filling. If needed, adjust the filling so each pie has an even amount. Next, crack an egg for an egg wash. Brush the pastry tops with the egg wash, which gives them a lovely golden color.

Place the pastry over the ramekins, pressing the edges to seal. Make a small slit on top of each pie to allow steam to escape while cooking. Egg wash the tops once more for a beautiful finish.

Cooking the Meat Pies in the Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (360°F). Place the ramekins in the air fryer basket, ensuring they fit snugly. Cook for 17 minutes, then check on your pies.

Finishing Touches

Once done, the pies should have a perfect golden-brown color. They look fantastic and are ready to be enjoyed! You can customize your pies with more filling, gravy, or other ingredients.
